French Court

French court make-up was fun to do, I enjoy make-up where it totally transforms a person (in this case, me). Eyebrows were very thin and pencilled higher and patches on the skin would have been used to cover up blemishes and scars from small pox!
The french court look typically involves: white face, thin eyebrows, rouge at the sides of the face and bright red lips (not forgetting as many patches as you want - each with their own different meanings). It was fun to try this look, but the only problem I had was blocking out my eyebrows because they're quite thick and dark.

It's been a while!

Just realised that I haven't posted in over 2 months, so sorry about that! I'm going to start updating a lot more now as I've just got the majority of my assignments in (learnt my lesson about leaving work til the last minute haha). Anyway, I've got a few more make-up designs/pictures from previous lessons including: Egyptian, French Court and 1940s, so I'll put those up in a couple of days. For now I'm spending my time on sketchbooks production assignments and interview prep! I've got offers/interviews from Birmingham and Bedfordshire so far so I'm just waiting for the last three now! x

Halloween and Cake Stalls

So Halloween was a lot of fun, it's good to see more people dressing up, but we hardly got any trick or treaters this year! (I got to keep the sweets though heh).
I went to a Halloween party on the Saturday and loved the outfit I chose so much I wore it to college for our Halloween fundraiser where we sold cakes etc. Definitely got a few funny looks on the way home hahah.
My outfit was a 'scary doll' or whatever you want to call it. I used false lashes on the top and bottom of my eyes but added the bottom lashes further down my face and coloured in the space white. It's really effective and makes your eyes look huuuge! I also added big rosy cheeks and small lips by only colouring in the centre and going over the rest with foundation.
Holly (centre) loved it so much she made me do her make-up the same, hahah.
For the cake stall I decided to give myself a slit throat and 'stitched' mouth - can't go wrong with a bit of fake blood eh?!

There wasn't many people in college so we didn't make as much money as last time. Still, £100 isn't bad at all! Shame a lot of the people at Leeds college weren't as enthusiastic as we were about dressing up. We had a make-up stall at the side though which led a fair few people walking around with cuts/bruises on their face heh x

Halloween!

Halloween is something I look forward to every year simply because I love dressing up! As it's coming up soon I thought I'd do a huuuge post with a couple of ideas for make-up. I've found a few pictures, most done at college and one look done today which I think will give a great effect to any gory costume. This is pretty much gonna be a post crammed with loads of blood and bruises, but I'll post some more at somepoint with more fantasy looks.
This first picture is from a crime scene reconstruction practice; our team decided on doing something shocking, and eventually decided on doing something similar based on the Chelsea Smile/Glasgow Grin - "A Glasgow smile (also known as a Glasgow grin, Anna grin, Chelsea grin or Chelsea smile) refers to the wound that results from slashing a person's face from the edges of the mouth to the ears". (It was a murder of prostitutes in a club basement who had been tied up...if you wanted to know the scenario haha).
This was the start of my course and one of the first times I'd properly used derma wax - I think it was a successful attempt and would definitely be ideal for Halloween.
These next few pictures are ones I've done in my spare time, mainly as quick practices with my kit.
Different Attempt at a Chelsea Smile - I think it looks more like the Joker though!
Basic cut made with Derma Wax

Quick attempt at a Skeleton - Would be good on it's own or for Lady Gaga styles!
Last but not least, track marks/bruising from excessive drug use -lovely eh?!  (Apologies for poor webcam photo!)

For all the looks I've used make-up from Grimas. My make-up kit at the moment contains:

  • Grimas cream make-up - B+V Palette
  • Derma Wax
  • Film Blood A
  • Bruise Wheel
  • Liquid Latex
  • Collidion
  • Latex sponges/make-up brushes
I'm doing a Halloween fund-raiser next week so I need to be dressed up somehow, I'll probably practice loads of other looks so I'll be posting them too! x

First post!

First post woohooo! I'm new to 'proper' blogging in a sense, seeing as I'm more of a picture blog on Tumblr. Anyway first post and I thought I'd just post a couple of odd make-up pictures I did last year as I don't know where else to put them!

This has got to be one of my favourite pictures from college and probably what got me into loving special fx make-up in general! We use mostly greasepaint and theatrical make-up instead of eyeshadows and cosmetics. For this look I used Mastix glue to stick the latex piece on my face and then blended it in using greasepaint. There's a picture of the whole class made into animals stuck on one of the corridors, it's so beautiful it hurts! I don't think I was creating this look for any purpose than practice, but it was a fun experience and I don't think it looks that bad for a first attempt heh x
